Video on Your Twelve Month Old Toddler's Development
Congratulations on your baby completing a year! At this stage, your toddler maintains eye contact with you, kisses you and can make you laugh. She understands some of what you say and responds with words and gestures. She will initiate conversations and let you know what she wants. Slowly her baby talk will be replaced by actual words even if only you can understand them at first. She will also express bouts of anger and frustration at attempts to discipline her. Distract her with some other activity when she becomes angry. Do not be afraid to tell her a NO when she does something undesirable. She can pick up objects and release them too. She will also enjoy dropping things on the floor. She also enjoys opening cabinets and containers, and taking out the contents. She will experience balancing on her feet using your hands or furniture for support. This is called cruising. When she learns to walk by herself, there is no stopping her as she wanders off to explore everything. Move dangerous objects out of her reach.
