We;come to Pregnancy Week 27.
Your uterus continues to grow and expand. The growing uterus, the pressure on the organs, and the increasing bulk may make you feel drained out. Taking some extra rest will help you feel better. You may sweat a lot because of the pressure on your heart. Mood swings are also common.
Some of you may experience Braxton Hicks contractions which are pre-labor contractions. They help your body prepare for labour. They occur at random intervals. Although they are sometimes uncomfortable, they are usually not painful.
If you are at risk for preterm labour, your doctor may advise you to go in for home uterine monitoring.
You may consider attending classes on topics such as labour, birth positions and breastfeeding. You may also start discussing about your maternity leave with your employer.
Your baby's liver, lungs and immune system continue to develop. His immune system is benefited more after birth when you breast feed him. This helps him to acquire antibodies and thus enhance the immunity. He becomes immune to infections as your antibodies cross over the placenta.
If he has not opened his eyelids, the previous week, he will do so now. His retinas are fully developed and they help him to differentiate the light and the dark. He may start recognizing familiar voices such as your partner's and yours. However the sounds may appear faint to him because the ears are still coated with vernix which start forming during Pregnancy Week 19.
