Changes During Pregnancy - Week 13

Mother

Congratulations! You have passed a key milestone in your pregnancy.

Also, most of you will be happy to find some of your nagging pregnancy symptoms take a downward curve. These include nausea and exhaustion. You begin to freshen up a little and seem to bubble with energy. However, you may start experiencing a ligament pain in the lower abdomen that lasts for a short while. This pain occurs when you move suddenly or change your position. If the pain is followed by abdominal cramps, vomiting or bleeding, contact your doctor immediately. The gums are softened during pregnancy and even brushing your teeth is often sufficient to cause your gums to bleed. This is sometimes called "Pink toothbrush".

You must continue taking your vitamin supplements and continue eating a healthy diet. Your diet is essential for the baby to receive the right amounts of vitamins and minerals. If you are having a normal low-risk pregnancy, it is safe to have intercourse during this period. If you are not sure, check with your doctor.

Baby

Your baby's face is more prominent and looks more human. The baby's head now sits on a neck and hair can be seen on the body and head. His body begins to become proportionate to his head. Little eyebrows and eyelashes start growing. Putting the thumb into the mouth continues.
