Welcome to Pregnancy Week 12.
Your pregnancy symptoms may still be going strong. Some of these like nausea and fatigue tend to go away at the end of the first trimester. However, you may still be suffering from heartburns because of the expanded uterus pressing against the abdomen and the enhanced hormonal levels relaxing the LES.
To prevent heartburns, you can avoid large and spicy meals. Do not drink liquids in between meals and avoid aerated juices. It is advisable to eat often in smaller quantities. Ensure that the ingredients in the food do not cause acidity. Lie down with your head slightly raised as on a pillow. You should also avoid lying down immediately after you finish a meal.
Your doctor will discuss your antenatal care, plan for your birth and the necessary arrangements after delivery. She may also discuss your diet and about your choice of breast feeding.
Many couples opt to break the good news of expecting a new arrival with family and friends at this stage.
Your baby's major organs and limbs continue working. His liver and pancreas begin performing their function effectively. His vocal cords start developing. His little finger and toe nails start growing. The baby also moves around more, but it is still too early for you to feel these movements.
Your baby's brain starts producing many hormones and the nerve cells in your baby's brain start developing and multiplying rapidly. He may start putting his thumb into his mouth. His kidneys start producing urine. The external male and female genetalia are being formed but still have some time to reach completion.
