If you are pregnant, then you may find the urge to urinate very frequently. This urge is more prominent during the initial and later stages of pregnancy. Usually, this is normal and there is nothing to worry. Keep your doctor informed if you are able to pass only a few drops each time you urinate and the frequency of the sensation increases. Sometimes the urge is more when you are lying down. The frequency varies from person to person because of the slight difference in positioning of the internal organs in each person.
Causes
Some reasons why you may find yourself wanting to urinate frequently are:
- The expanding uterus places pressure on the bladder in the later stages of pregnancy.
- When you lie down, the fluid you retained in your feet and legs passes into the bladder.
Prevention
Some ways to prevent frequent urination are:
- Go slow on beverages such as coffee and tea that have a mild diuretic effect.
- Lean forward whenever you pee to empty your bladder completely.
- Avoid too much of liquids at night before you lie down.
Treatment
Some ways to treat the urge to urinate frequently are:
- Reduce the liquid intake at night. Compensate for it during the day time. Increase the liquid intake during day time to include the night time liquids.
- Do not try to control the sensation to urinate.
- Get yourself treated by your doctor for urinary tract infection, if needed.
