Parenting styles may vary from a quite strict to a very permissive one. Each style leaves an indelible impact on the child's development. Authoritarian parents who use authoritative methods to achieve their aims may succeed in making the child conform to their standards but the control may break sooner or later. Parents adopting a permissive parenting style employ little or no discipline. They do not seek to guide the child into socially approved patterns of behaviour and do not employ punishment. Parents following a democratic style get involved in educating, discussing and counselling children. They emphasize growth, self-control and self-discipline. These in turn lead to motivation from within. Read more about characteristics of each child raised under the different parenting styles.
