The little one may refer to all objects of the same category by a common name. For example if he has a teddy bear, then he will refer to all soft toys as "teddy bear". You may correct him if you want but there is actually no need to do so. He will learn the correct names himself by listening to your talk with him. If your toddler does not get something right (such as inability to pronounce syllables in words), do not keep correcting every single instance of the error. But this does not mean that you have to completely ignore the mistake. You can correct him occasionally. Repeated corrections especially if done angrily make him fearful. He may decide to stop talking for fear of getting into trouble. With time, he will correct himself. Repeated corrections can also lead to stutters and stammers. The best way to do a correction is to use the incorrect word properly when you talk to him. Your toddler will understand the mistake and correct himself.
