An empathetic child is the pride of every parent. You must train your toddler to be empathetic from her early days. She may not understand its importance at this age. However, early training benefits her greatly in her later years. Remember that being empathetic is a trait that even adults take time to acquire. So do not worry if you find your toddler slow in learning this skill. You can help her with some simple tips. Continuously train her on good manners (your toddler does not achieve perfection in this overnight). Be a patient listener and allow your toddler to talk about her feelings. If you have started allowing your toddler to watch television, there are same basic rules which you must strictly adhere to. This is very important to get the best out of TV watching. For example, you can set rigid TV watching time limits. Also, you must allow the toddler to watch only programs appropriate for her age. Never use the TV as an electronic baby sitter. There are more useful tips on TV viewing for you to consider. If you prove yourself more entertaining than the TV or develop her love for reading, she may not get hooked to the televison at all. Do not allow the television to overpower her. Remember not to establish this control using commands or threats.
Your toddler will enjoy listening to nursery rhymes. When she learns to sing them, if you hear her making something up on her own instead of repeating the lyrics, encourage her. You can nurture your little scientist through activities like identifying various colours and different things in these colours. At this stage your toddler will use 50+ words for communication and also combine words together. These might include 2 or 3 sentences with prepositions. She can also a follow two step instruction without gestures. Sometimes her last baby tooth might have erupted by this time. If not, it will erupt by the time she is 32 months old. Your toddler will mostly be able to jump up and down, and dress herself partly with a piece of clothing. She might also jump from a height of 12 inches using one foot. At this stage, you might find your kid climbing well. In some cases, she may build a tower of 8 cubes and balance on one foot for a second.
