The semen analysis test is the initial test that is performed for the male. For the female, the pelvic ultrasound, the hormonal array and the hysterosalpingogram are performed.
After the completion of these tests, the woman maybe given ovulation induction drugs. The ovulation process is monitored using transvaginal ultrasound. If there is no obvious abnormality in the ovulation and the couple hasn't conceived after this assisted cycle, the doctor may opt for IUI. IUI is also used in some cases of subnormal male factor infertility like mild oligospermia. Major male factor infertility is treated by IVF or ICSI.
