What are the risks associated with Chorionic Vilus Sampling? I would also like to know when it is carried out.

Chorionic Vilus Sampling or CVS is carried out when the mother is at least 11 weeks pregnant. One of the main risks of CVS is a 1:100 or 1:200 chances of miscarriage. Another risk is possibility of missing toes and fingers in the newborn if it is carried out before 11 weeks. Yet another key risk is that if the mother is Rh negative and her blood mixes with the fetus. An immune system reaction is produced due to the incompatible blood types.
