speech delay

hi all,my kid is 2.9.he is sharp,naughty n very energetic.he is nw going to his p;ayschool.bt problem wid him is that he hs nt started speaking cleraly.he speaks only in words........if someone ask him to speak anything he will speak immediately bt do nt take initiative of his own...i would like to add one more thing here that he is showing a gud improvement in last 3-4 months bt u knw i am a father na n i feel worried fr him when i saw kids of his age speaking in sentences.we r living in nuclear family n he do nt hv anybody to talk except my wife........i want to knw is this normal.....n plz share ur valuable opinions regarding this.....

Has your kid started speaking properly now? I have heard that this has been very common these days. I have a nephew who is almost 2 but not able to speak at all.
