I am 5 weeks pregnant and have just had an ultrasound done. The doctor could not detect the baby's heart beat although everything else was fine. She has told me to prepare myself for a miscarriage if there is no heartbeat during the ultrasound scheduled for the next week. I am really upset as this is my first pregnancy.

Do not worry. Usually, an ultrasound detects a heart beat only when you are about 6 weeks pregnant. My doctor detected mine when I was 6 weeks pregnant. A friend of mine had her baby's heart beat detected when she was 7 weeks pregnant.
