My 6 week old breastfeeding baby keeps sucking her hands indicating that she is hungry. When I try to breastfeed her, she feeds herself for just a couple of minutes. After that, she withdraws herself and appears restless. Could it be because my breasts do not have enough milk to meet her needs? In addition, she is awake for only about a maximum of 6 hours during the day and wakes up every one hour at night for her feed. However, she does not show any signs of discomfort.

Your baby may be undergoing a growth spurt. The best way to check if she is having enough milk is to check her diapers! Remember that what goes in has to come out. Ideally, she may dirty about a minimum of 8 diapers in a day and a couple of poops. If your baby’s diapers exhibits these, you have nothing to worry.
