We have just moved into Pune with our 12 year old. This is because my husband got a transfer. Earlier we were in our hometown Karnataka. My daughter who usually loves going to school dreads the very thought of getting ready for school each day. One main problem is she does not know the language and has no friends. I am afraid my otherwise bubbly child will get withdrawn and turn into an introvert. Please help.

You can buy some simple books to teach her Marati. Some of your neighbours may also help out in getting started. Why don't you ask them? Also, encourage her to participate in all school activities and discussions. Encourage her to take up the initiative of doing any task that the teacher requests one of the classmates to do.

Also tell her to call a friend over so for a game or a weekend lunch that they can spend sometime together. These can help to enhance the bonding.
