I have a 1.5 year old baby who throws up tantrums very often. He looks for something hard to bang his head and hits it hard. Sometimes he continues to bang till it hurts. Other times, he hits himself with whatever he has in his hand. I ignore it as much as possible, but the bruises leave me worried. How do I correct this behaviour?

A friend used a basin of ice water...so that when his daugher was lifting her head he placed the basin where she would come down on the floor...after sputtering in the water for a few seconds, and it only happened twice she stopped doing it....all she needed to do was bring out the basin and it stopped....

I sometimes ignore my toddler completely. He stops when he notices that no one is paying attention. However if it continues, I put him in a play pen or crib with soft padding. This way I know he will not hurt himself.
