My friend’s 8 week old son is being exclusively breastfed right from when he was born. Although he has about 8 to 10 soiled diapers every day, he has not shown any traces of poop in them for the past two days. He has been making grunts like sounds during this time. My friend is really worried if her son can be constipated. Should she give him any laxative? Have any breastfeeding mothers faced this problem with their babies?

Your friend’s baby is most likely suffering from gas problems or he may just be worried. It is quite normal for an exclusively breastfed baby to not pass his poops for a couple of days. In fact, he can even go on like this for a week and not be constipated. Your friend need not give him a laxative.
