Breastfeeding Positions

Finding the correct breastfeeding position is a key skill that breastfeeding mothers must acquire. No two mothers may find the same breast feeding position comfortable. You may have to try out different breast feeding positions before you find the one that is just right for you. In a good breast feeding position, you should feel relaxed with no stress on the breasts. Breast feeding positions determine your milk production, the amount of milk your baby gets, how long she sucks at your breast and drinks the milk and how successful the breast feeding was. A good breastfeeding position also helps you in avoiding sore nipples.

Signs of Correct Breastfeeding Positions

The following are some signs of correct breastfeeding positions.

  • Your baby's neck is straight or very slightly bent back.
  • Your baby's body is turned towards you and is quite near yours.
  • The whole body of the baby has a supporting system.
  • The baby and you have eye contact with each other.
